City of Augusta and The Warrior Alliance Collaborate to Empower Veteran Skills Development and Employment
Affiliation supports veterans with barriers to employment
Augusta, GA, July 23, 2019 – If you grew up in the Augusta area, chances are you may have learned to play the game of golf at the Augusta Municipal Golf Course (AMGC), affectionately known as “The Patch.” Built in the late 1920s, the AMGC is going to get its first significant face-lift and, in the process, play a major role in restoring hope for many military veterans with barriers to employment.
Through an agreement with the City of Augusta, The Warrior Alliance is establishing a veteran skills development and employment program called Operation Double Eagle. The program focuses on a veteran’s specific goals and helps to re-tool the skills they mastered during military service to secure a stable income and new career path.
“We are excited to announce the partnership with The Warrior Alliance on this important endeavor for our community”, says Mayor Hardie Davis, “Augusta’s rich military history and reputation as the mecca for golf around the world makes for a perfect venue to restore The Patch and bring our veterans to a place of opportunity in a forward-thinking way. This collaboration poises the city to become an epicenter for veteran workforce development within the golf industry.”
The Warrior Alliance will launch the development of the Double Eagle Performance Center on July 24th as Phase I of the larger project to renovate the AMGC with a trained veteran workforce. This site will establish a world-class apprentice facility for veterans to learn features construction, irrigation, turf management, horticulture and many other aspects of course development, renovation, and maintenance. The center will be used for ongoing skills development to continuously produce a “job ready” veteran workforce for numerous industries in need of a talented and dedicated employment pool.
“The name Operation Double Eagle means to “restore and renew,” and defines the spirit of a great city like Augusta,” states Scott Johnson, President and Executive Director of The Warrior Alliance. “The benefits of the renovation project are twofold. While we are establishing a world-class training platform for veterans, the community will also receive a top-rated, highly accessible golf course that will open doors for people of all abilities to learn and grow the game of golf.”
